Select ' Virtual Network Editor ' from the drop down list. VMnet1, or VMnet8 On a shared or remote virtual machine Steps to change the name of a network : Click on Edit from the VMware Workstation Console. Workstation Pro presumes that a custom setting should not be modified, even if you later change the setting back to its default value. On a network Workstation Pro created automatically, such as VMnet0. If the value exceeds the valid range, Workstation Pro resets the settings based on the subnet range. If you change any of these settings from their default values, Workstation Pro does not update that setting automatically if the value is within the valid range. So a 260-400mb file is needed to extract a 4-5mb piece of program we need. To add vmnetcfg.exe, we need to extract it from Workstation's installer (the link below shows how: -e parameter still applies). Settings that are automatically updated include the DHCP lease range and DHCP server address, the NAT gateway address, and the host network adapter IP address. It seems that the network editor isn't bundled with the Player's installer (no network.cab). When you modify the subnet mask, Workstation Pro updates the IP address settings for other components, including DHCP, NAT, and the host virtual network adapter, if the default settings were never changed. When I select 'Bridged,' click 'Configure Adapters' and input my admin credentials, suddenly the custom drop-down doesnt have any empty VMnets, but only 3 are listed, where VMnet0 is now 'auto-bridging.' Only when I close out of VMware Workstation Player, the auto-bridging disappears and the Custom drop-down has empty VMnets again. Certain virtual network services might not work as well with a customized subnet mask. In general, do not change the subnet mask. Typically, you should modify only the third number in the IP address, for example, x in .0 or 198.16.x.0. The default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, which is a Class C address.
